You may borrow any amount between £2,000 - £25,000 through a Lombard Direct loan. Interest rates vary in three bands and repayment terms depend on the amount you borrow. For example, with a Lombard Direct loan under £10,000, you may choose to repay the loan over any period between 24 months and five years. Loans greater than £10,000 may be repaid over any period between 24 months and seven years.
The exact interest rate you will be charged will be based on your personal circumstances and loan amount. When you apply for your loan, Lombard Direct will tell you exactly which APR it is prepared to offer you. You must be at least 22 years old to apply for a Lombard Direct loan.
Lombard's beginnings can be traced back to 1861 when a group of entrepreneurial businessmen in Rotherham created the North Central Wagon Company, to hire out rolling stock to railway companies. The diamond symbol used in the corporate logo depicts a lump of coal, reflecting North Central's early links with the mining industry.
In 1969 the newly formed National Westminster Bank acquired Lombard Banking, a business set up in 1947, and merged it with North Central shortly afterwards. In 1995 Lombard launched Lombard Direct, one of the early 'direct' loan services offering customers a fast and easy way to finance their goods via the telephone, 24 hours a day.
Following the takeover of National Westminster by Royal Bank of Scotland, Lombard and its Lombard Direct subsidiary are now part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group.
